What Can You Substitute For Espresso Powder?

|

When it comes to coffee there are a lot of different ways to make it.

Some people like it black some like it with sugar some like it with cream and some even like flavoring.

But what if you don’t have espresso powder? Can you still make a great cup of coffee?

As it turns out you can still make an excellent cup of coffee without espresso powder.

There are a few different substitutes that you can use in its place.

One popular substitute is instant coffee.

Instant coffee is basically just concentrated coffee that has been dried and ground up.

It’s not as strong as espresso powder but it will still give you a nice caffeine kick.

Another good substitute for espresso powder is cocoa powder.

Cocoa powder is also very concentrated so it will give your coffee a rich flavor without making it too sweet.

Can I Use Cocoa Powder Instead Of Espresso Powder?

In a pinch you can absolutely use cocoa powder as a substitute for espresso powder.

The two powders are quite similar and cocoa powder will work to give your baked goods the same rich flavor and depth that espresso powder would.

Just be aware that because cocoa powder is more bitter than espresso powder you may want to use a little less than the recipe calls for.

Start by substituting 1/4 cup of cocoa powder for every 1 tablespoon of espresso powder called for and then adjust from there as needed.
